Complete OKR on deadline irrelevant of % completion
With OKR's you should be able to stop/start/continue. This will mean that you should be able to keep a track of your OKR without keeping it open.
I would like to be able to complete an OKR after the deadline where the OKR is no longer the focus for the department/business

Absolutely should be given the freedom to close OKRs as you and the company sees fit.
Smart objectives can be closed when you don't hit them (yes/no) for instance - shame should be applied to OKRs -

Jade NewtonWe have many aspirational OKRs and they might not ever make the intended result reaching 100% - that's just the nature of the target, but we'd like to archive/ close it for record and project tracking.
